Traffic rules

Stay calm
The first thing that you should know about driving a car in the Dominican Republic is that everyone has their own free and easy style of driving.

The use of turn signals is not customary. Keep to the right. On some intersections, there is no right of way so it is best to yield to other traffic entering the intersection.Be sure to use low beams at night.

Now that you know this we can proceed to the second main driving rule. Size counts. The larger vehicle has the right of way, even when there is a traffic signal. Always give way to yellow buses, trucks, SUVs and other larger vehicles.

The good news is that any driver with a few years experience will feel comfortable driving in the Dominican Republic.
